Texas A&M International University (TAMIU) assistant professor of Communication Dr. Arthur D. Soto-Vásquez recently concluded a spring book talk tour representing his co-editors and authors at institutions of higher learning across the United States.

Dr. Soto-Vásquez shared information and insight on the group’s new book "Migrant World Making," published by Michigan State University Press last December.

The book was co-edited by Sergio Fernando Juárez of Loyola Marymount University, Julia Khrebtan-Hörhager, (Colorado State University), Michael Lechuga (University of New Mexico), and Soto-Vásquez (TAMIU).  It delves into how migrants develop communication strategies and use new technologies to keep connections to their originating cultures while settling in host countries and building new worlds.

Of the tour, Soto-Vásquez acknowledged the support of the TAMIU College of Arts and Sciences.

“I’m extremely grateful for the support from the College of Arts and Sciences for the tour,” Soto-Vásquez said.

Among the tour sites visited were the American University’s School of Communication in Washington D.C.; The University of Texas Moody College of Communication, and Southwestern University in Georgetown for "Migrant as Other," a discussion placing the work into the context of popular culture and monsters.

Between appearances, Soto-Vásquez joined his co-editors for an online talk hosted by Scalbrini International Migration Institute (SIMI), based in Rome, Italy. The tour ended with appearances at New York City’s Hunter College's Department of Africana, Puerto Rican, and Latino Studies,  and at the University of Houston Downtown’s  Center for Latino Studies.
