Incoming Exchange Students


Welcome to Dustdevil Country!

Texas A&M International University (TAMIU) welcomes students from around the world. We pride ourselves in providing a learning environment built on a progressive international agenda. TAMIU provides instruction across all disciplines, with an emphasis in the arts and sciences.

We are excited that you are interested in studying at TAMIU and cannot wait to see you on campus. Incoming exchange students must first obtain nomination on behalf of their home institution. After nomination, exchange students will receive an email from our office with further instructions as well as the TAMIU Exchange Application.


General Application Process

Students who would like to apply to TAMIU through our exchange program need to complete the general application process below. Keep in mind that some academic departments may have course restrictions.

Home Institution Nomination

Nomination deadlines for incoming exchange students are: Fall Semester (August-December) April 1 and Spring Semester (January-May) October 1. Exchange partners should submit the following Nomination Form.

TAMIU Exchange Application

Incoming exchange students should submit the Exchange Application along with the required documents to seek admissions to the TAMIU Exchange Program. Exchange application deadlines are: Fall Semester (August-December) May 15 and Spring Semester (January-May) October 15.

A. Official College Transcript - Submit a transcript for the college(s) you are currently attending and have attended and current transcript that shows your current courses. If you are a Graduate student at your home institution, please also upload your undergraduate transcripts.
*All Transcripts must be translated in English and have your university's official stamp (if university information and your name already not in the document).

B. Proof of English Proficiency - Submit a copy of your TOEFL/IELTS/iBT scores. The following TOEFL scores are required: English track majors iBT TOEFL score of 69 or higher certified by home institution, Non English track majors an official ETS TOEFL score of 69 iBT or higher, and English Literature majors an official ETS TOEFL score of 79 iBT or higher. C. Passport Copy - Submit a copy of your valid passport identification page.

D. Proof of Meningitis - If a student is under the age of 22 years of age as of the first class date, they must submit proof of bacterial meningitis prior to arrival.

Bank Affidavit

Students may also submit a bank statement in replacement of a bank affidavit. The bank statement must be issued on bank letter head with original signature. It must be dated within six months of the first enrollment according to the following dates: Fall Semester - January 1 or later, Spring Semester - May 1 or later. Refer to the table below for the amounts bank statements must have.

Sponsor Letter

A sponsor letter should certify the following: the sponsor's commitment to pay educational, living, health and personal expenses. The letter must be dated within six months of the first enrollment: Fall Semester - January 1 or later, Spring Semester - May 1 or later. Note, you do not need to submit a sponsor letter if the bank statement is under your name. You may have up to two sponsors.

J1 Student Visa

Students interested in participating in an exchange program in the United States are required to obtain a J-1 student visa. Upon acceptance to the program and submission of financial documentation, the student will receive a DS-2019 form to be eligible for a J-1 visa appointment.
