Our Vision
The Office of Community Engagement & PROF Center at TAMIU seeks to support, facilitate, and promote collaboration between the University and local and global community partners. Community partnerships are enhanced through academic experiences, such as service-learning, continuing education, literacy partnerships and research, among others. Our intent is to encourage and assist civic engagement efforts occurring throughout the University and to create new opportunities for partnerships with our community.
Our Mission
The Office of Community Engagement & PROF Center- based on the principles of reciprocity and civic responsibility- seeks to:- Enrich scholarship and enhance the curriculum for students, faculty, and staff.
- Sustain reciprocal community and academic partnerships between TAMIU and the community, locally and internationally.
- Provide a central archive of resources and provide guidance on civic engagement for students, faculty, and staff.

Service-Learning
Service-learning courses engage TAMIU students with the community enhancing academic learning, and promoting civic and personal growth.
American Democracy Project
Equips students with knowledge and skills necessary to critically navigate their way through online information environments.
Volunteer Opportunities
Volunteer projects promote community engagement as a fundamental part of learning and cultivate a commitment to help those in need.
Continuing Education
Continuing education programs facilitate educational activities which provide knowledge and practical application for individual learners and organizations.
TAMIU-LBV LITERACY PARTNERSHIP
TAMIU-LBV Literacy Partnership provides highly-effective tutoring services to struggling readers in Literacy Centers on LISD and UISD campuses.
Small Business Development Center
Offers training programs to new and established entrepreneurs helping them achieve long-term growth and profitability, which in turn, give back in terms of economic development.
WORK-STUDY IN THE COMMUNITY
Work Study-Community Services positions are a special category that allows students the opportunity to gain work study employment, while serving a partner agency within the community. These partner agencies are part of Partnership TAMIU.
