The award winning Texas A&M International University Classical Guitar Ensemble is a group of energetic guitarists as well as instrumentalists from other disciplines who share experiences in the reading and performing of guitar literature for small instrumental ensembles. The repertoire studied and performed are works written for instruments of the lute and guitar family in the following genres:

  • Classical
  • Flamenco
  • New Age
  • Contemporary

The group focuses on encouraging, pursuing and promoting scholastic and artistic studies of the guitar.

The Classical Guitar Ensemble has enriched the lives of students and community residents for more than ten years by offering free cultural programs, concerts and other events at no cost. The Ensemble is very active in the community performing at numerous functions throughout the year. The group also promotes the cultural heritage of Laredo and the South Texas Region; and it promotes good will, as ambassadors to the community. Furthermore, the students and our community members are able to experience music as a performing art, despite any socio-economic disadvantages they may encounter. The Ensemble is dedicated to the promotion of local talent and also to providing quality programming to the community.

The Texas A&M International University Classical Guitar Ensemble has performed not only locally, but nationally and internationally. Some of the places this group of guitarists have performed represented this institution include Dallas, Edinburg, Crestone, Colorado, and twice at the International Music Festival “Chamber Art Madrid” in the cities of Madrid and Barajas, in Spain. Because of the performance success at this festival, the ensemble has been invited back in the summer of 2017, as well at an International Music Festival in the city of Prague, at the Czech Republic.
