Texas A&M International University (TAMIU) College of Arts and Sciences Department of Psychology and Communication recently hosted the second French-Mexican-Texan Colloquium, "Somos Vínculos," where researchers presented on the social and cultural expressions of the Northeast region of México and Texas.

A total of 14 scholars from Mexican universities and 11 scholars representing various universities in the United States convened at the conference, including four from TAMIU.

Dr. Carlos Lozano, TAMIU Department of Psychology and Communication professor and chair, said that the Colloquium's primary aim was to facilitate the exchange of findings and ideas about some of the most relevant issues in U.S.- México border studies between Mexican and American scholars.

"The Colloquium helped these scholars to meet, to compare their research, and to explore avenues of collaboration," he said, "The inaugural Colloquium was held in May 2022 in Monterrey, México. At that time, researchers of different nationalities participated, presenting their reflections on the cross-border economy, migrations and culture in the northeast region of Mexico and Texas."

At this year's meeting, researchers presented their reflections on cross-border dynamics, fostering deeper understanding and collaboration.

A total of six panels discussed the most pressing issues in the U.S-México border.  Topics included "Corridos and Other Narratives in Northeast México and Texas: Evolution and Adaptation."  "Nearshoring and its Impact on Border Economy," "Water Management: Perception of Drought and Water Scarcity in Northeastern México and South Texas, "Migration and Mobility in Northeast México and Texas: Trends and Current Issues, "Lives in Limbo: Missing Persons and Exhumations in Northeastern México and Texas," and "What Dialogue Do We Want Between Academics from Northeastern México and Texas?"
