Administrative or Educational Support Unit Mission Statement:
To marshal the knowledge and expertise of Texas A&M International University’s faculty, students, and staff to provide effective leadership and
support to Texas border communities in their economic development efforts.
Intended Administrative Objectives:
1. Provide economic educational programs to students who attend middle schools located in low income colonias.
2. Provide high school students with opportunity to explore their entrepreneurial interests through a special program, the Youth Entrepreneur Summer (YES) Camp.
3. Improve the quality of life for children in the Rio Bravo/ El Cenizo community, through teaching models to help children learn to read effectively.

Intended Administrative or Educational Support Objective:
1. Provide economic educational programs to students who attend middle schools located in low income colonias.
First Means of Assessment for Objective Identified Above:
1a. Means of Unit Assessment & Criteria for Success:
Six classroom presentations will be given; attended by a minimum of 15
students at each presentation. Attendance will be measured by the
teacher’s attendance rosters.
1a. Summary of Assessment Data Collected:
Six classroom presentations were given at Salvador Garcia Middle School with an average student attendance of 22.
1a. Use of Results to Improve Unit Services:
Future actions to be taken: (1) expand program to additional schools, (2)
implement pre/post test to measure knowledge gained by students.
1b. Means of Unit Assessment & Criteria for Success:
Consult with middle school teacher on satisfaction with the results of the
classroom presentations.
1b. Summary of Assessment Data Collected:
A meeting was held with the middle school teacher to discuss satisfaction
with the class presentations.
1b. Use of Results to Improve Unit Services:
At the meeting, the teacher expressed her complete satisfaction with the
results of the class presentations. Future actions to be taken: (1) expand
program to include additional classroom presentations at the teacher’s
recommendation, (2) provide students with field trip opportunities, at the
teacher’s recommendation.

2. Provide high school students with opportunity to explore their entrepreneurial interests through a special program, Youth Entrepreneur Summer (YES) Camp.
First Means of Assessment for Objective Identified Above:
2a. Means of Unit Assessment & Criteria for Success:
A minimum of 50 students will attend two classes in Laredo and one class in
Zapata. Participation will be measured by course enrollment.
2a. Summary of Assessment Data Collected:
A total of 70 students attended the YES Camp program in Laredo and Zapata.
2a. Use of Results to Improve Unit Services:
Our goal for next year is to increase attendance by 10%. Recruitment will
be done through high school presentations, informing the counselors and the
distribution of informational flyers at the schools.
2b. Means of Unit Assessment & Criteria for Success:
Students from at least four (4) new (not previously participating) high schools
will attend the YES Camp. School participation will be determined from student
enrollment documents.
2b. Summary of Assessment Data Collected:
Students from five different schools participated in this year’s YES camp.
2b. Use of Results to Improve Unit Services:
Our goal is to increase student participation from at least two additional
new high schools.

First Means of Assessment for Objective Identified Above:
3a. Means of Unit Assessment & Criteria for Success:
There will be a minimum of twenty students from 4th and 5th
grades that will attend a three week summer camp at the TAMIU’s facilities
located on the Salvador Garcia Middle School campus.
3a. Summary of Assessment Data Collected:
The students participation will be measured by class attendance. Student
learning outcomes will be asset by a final collection of writings. Only nine of
the expected twenty students participated in the program.
3a. Use of Results to Improve Unit Services:
To increase student participation next year an effort will be made to
involve more teachers into the program. Teacher’s assessment of students
writings were determined to be satisfactory.
3b. Means of Unit Assessment & Criteria for Success:
75% of the parent will complete an evaluation form at the end of the
program and 100% will express a high level of satisfaction.
3b. Summary of Assessment Data Collected:
80% of the parents completed the evaluation form. 100% of the parents
completing the evaluation form expressed a high level of satisfaction with the
literacy camp.

Our goal is to increase student and parent participation in the program by
20% next year.
