Yeary Library at then- Laredo Junior College. 1970 ThenTexasA&IUniversityatLaredo opens its doors as the State’s first upper-level institution. 1975 Despite impressive enrollment growth, State budget cuts threaten to thwart the University’s independenceandplansto implementnewprograms. Communitymembersrallytoforestallthecutsand the reductions of staff and service. 1976 Drivenbyenrollmentgrowth,theLaredo JuniorCollegeBoardofTrusteesunanimously agrees to provide LSUwith several acres of land to support the addition of an 18,000 square-foot classroom building, University Hall. Froma study carrel on a shared campus to three name changes and an inspiring home on 300-acres in northeast Laredo, TAMIU has quite a story.
