44 Texas A&M International University 3 - CAMPUS PLAN There is presently a large open space on the east side of the Student Center, containing an formal garden and a large swath of lawn planted with live oaks as the predominatnt species. The plan seeks to reimagine and rejuvenate this space as a vibrant student commons space. Landscape improvements, both plantings and hardscape, will increase access to outdoor gathering spaces and create an activated and welcoming Student Center front door. This area is imagined as an outdoor space that students “own,” and the looser nature of the design intent for this area should lend itself to a less formal space where as a place to study, relax, and gather.
