Ethics and Legal Issues in Nursing
Two semester hours, theory only.
This course provides an overview of legal and ethical issues for practicing nursing professionals at the baccalaureate level. The nurse will explore the American Nurses’ Association professional code of ethics as well as local, state and federal laws applicable to the profession of nursing. The Texas Nurse Practice Act and principles of ethical decision making are applied to current nursing practice. The legislative process and health care policies related to public safety and welfare as they relate to the development of the future nursing practice environment will be examined. Prerequisite: Core complete or permission of instructor.
