Texas A&M International University’s (TAMIU) College of Education has earned commendations from the Texas Education Agency (TEA) recognizing TAMIU as a high-performing educator preparation program.

The commendations are approved by the State Board for Educator Certification (SBEC) and based on the 2018-19 reporting year.

For the category “Preparing the Educators Texas Needs,” TAMIU’s College of Education was recognized for its high performances in the percentage of prepared teachers in teacher shortage areas and the percentage of prepared teachers who identify as teachers of color.

“On behalf of SBEC and the TEA Educator Leadership and Quality Department,  thank you for your work in preparing educators to serve in Texas public schools…congratulations on this recognition,” wrote Roy Franklin, TEA Associate Commissioner, Educator Leadership and Quality, in notifying TAMIU.

“The TAMIU College of Education prepares the majority of educators within a 150-mile radius of Laredo.  We’re enormously proud of our graduates and our programs. We’re the lead South Texas partner in the Texas A&M University’s System’s ‘We Teach Texas’ campaign.  This is our mission and our passion, and we are happy to share our expertise and resources with our students and future teachers,” said Dr. James O’Meara, TAMIU dean of the College of Education.
