A quiet Fall 2020 saw Texas A&M International University (TAMIU) Athletics only compete in cross country, men’s golf and women’s golf due to fall sports postponements in light of the COVID-19 Pandemic.

The week of Thanksgiving welcomed men’s and women’s basketball to the stage. The women’s team completed arguably the best week in program history defeating defending NCAA Division I Southland Conference Regular Season Champion Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi (TAMU-CC) 89-76, followed by a victory against Division I Big Sky Conference’s Weber State 60-46, both on the road.

Men’s basketball ushered in a new era under head coach Mac McConnell as it played TAMU-CC, losing a hard-fought battle.

Both teams will play a modified regular season schedule for the 2020-2021 season, playing a single opponent back-to-back. In division play, TAMIU has four opponents and will play one day with a travel day the next day and a rematch following. In cross-division play, TAMIU will host three opponents on back-to-back days and  travel to three opponents.

The New Year is sure to bring joy to Dustdevil fans. For the first time, men’s and women’s soccer and volleyball will compete in the spring semester.

Men’s and women’s soccer will begin a seven game conference schedule the week of February 16, 2021 and both teams will play one game a week. Both will host three matchups during the season. On the women’s side, it will be the start of head coach John Hussak’s run with the Dustdevils.

Volleyball, under the guidance of first year coach Brittany Harry, will begin play January 26, 2021, playing a 10-game schedule that includes five away games and five home games.

Men’s and women’s golf also begin their championship season in 2021. The annual Jack Brown Memorial Golf Tournament for men’s and women’s golf will take place a week later than the typical first week of February in 2021. The largest college golf tournament in South Texas, hosted by TAMIU, it takes place February 8 - 9 at the Laredo Country Club.

Lastly, baseball and softball will begin play in the spring semester as well.

Baseball opens its 2021 campaign February 5-7, 2021 at UT Permian Basin as new head coach Phillip Middleton opens his tenure at the Dustdevils helm. Dustdevil baseball plays a 36-game conference schedule consisting of 12 three-game series.

Softball is set to open its 2021 season on March 5, 2021, playing a 30-game conference schedule consisting of 15 dates played as doubleheaders.
