Texas A&M International University (TAMIU) continues to expand its aggressive efforts to assist students with financial aid to help them begin, continue or complete their degree.

In 2020, TAMIU  provided over $72 million in financial aid to students and recently announced an expanded vision for scholarships, The Excellence Investment.  It will provide first time freshmen with access to an additional $1 million in scholarship funds.

TAMIU is also offering students continued financial assistance during the COVID-19 Pandemic response by providing a fourth round of TAMIU CARES funding to the tune of $1.5 million for this Spring. All said and done, TAMIU CARES will have provided  over $5.1 million in emergency grants to students.  Of this, 92%, or $4,750,878, are federal funds while the remaining 8%, or $394,000, comes from non-governmental sources.

TAMIU president Dr. Pablo Arenaz said the combination of these financial aid programs is instrumental in helping  students pay for their University education.

“Financial aid programs are crucial to student success.  Here at TAMIU, 80% of degrees  are earned by economically disadvantaged undergraduates. Financial aid is one of the most significant factors in enabling a  student to move forward and complete their degree,” Dr. Arenaz explained.

He noted that the University’s low expense helps reduce the cost to attain a degree and a brighter future.

“TAMIU is  ranked fifth nationally among most affordable  universities in the nation and first in the State for lowest student debt.  Our return on investment is nationally ranked, and our graduates’ social mobility: the ability to advance their earning potential dramatically and measurably, has been recognized by U.S. News and World Report’s 2020 Best Colleges edition,” he explained.

Arenaz said the University’s graduates are predictably its pride and joy.

“For over 50 years, we’ve helped our graduates earn over 29,000 degrees.  They’ve gone on to careers and lives of meaning and purpose, changing this community and countless others. We take immense pride and joy in being a catalyst for this impactful and lasting change,” he concluded.

Registration for the Spring Semester is underway.  Classes begin Monday, January 25, 2021 and Late Registration continues through Jan. 29.
