As parents everywhere search for summer activities to help keep their kids physically and mentally active, Texas A&M International University (TAMIU) has launched a comprehensive website dedicated to fun activities for the entire family.

Over 50 activities and presentations made just for kids and their families are now available online through the Discover TAMIU website at https://go.tamiu.edu/discover.

While Discover TAMIU serves as an annual opportunity for families to connect with the University during a campus-wide open house, this year’s offerings were transitioned to a virtual setting, explained Scheiby González Fisher, executive director of Outreach and Pre-College Programs Programs.

“The COVID-19 Pandemic has changed the way we do things. We wanted to continue to provide an opportunity for our community to ‘Discover TAMIU’ even if it is from a distance. Instead of bringing the community to TAMIU, we are taking TAMIU to the community,” noted González Fisher.

González Fisher reiterated, “By shifting Discover TAMIU to an online platform, we can continue to allow the community to learn, discover, and explore what TAMIU has to offer.”

Families can access an array of activities available on the Discover TAMIU website. Similar to the traditional, in-person open house, activities segment themselves into different pathways, including an Artistic Avenue, Business Boulevard, International U, Scientific Journey, and Spirited Speedway.

Among the activities available for families, are a TAMIU-themed Coloring Book, DIY Piggy Banks, Homemade Harmonica, Poetry Tutorials, Math Games and Puzzles, Ballet Folklórico Performances, TAMIU Dance Program Performances, a Dustdevil Word Find and much more.

Activities are available in a variety of formats including video demonstrations and downloadable content that can also be printed or easily accessed through a mobile device.

Several University offices helped create activities, videos, or presentations to showcase within the Discover TAMIU website. While activities were primarily designed for K-12 students, all activities can be enjoyed by the entire family.

González Fisher affirmed the importance of familiarizing school-aged children with the University and promoting University life.

“It is important to expose students to higher education and motivate them to achieve a degree after high school. Discover TAMIU provides an accessible and vital connection between the community and the University,” said González Fisher.
