Texas A&M International University’s (TAMIU) University Police Department (UPD) will partner with the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) for their National Prescription Drug Take Back Day Saturday, Oct. 26 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in front of the TAMIU Student Center (STC).

TAMIU UPD Chief of Police Cordelia Perez said she’s glad to host the nationwide effort and providing a convenient collection point at TAMIU.

“Each year we’re proud to partner with the DEA in this national observation.  We share their commitment to our country’s health and safety and encourage Laredoans to join us in removing unneeded medications from their homes.  This provides a strong mechanism to help prevent medication misuse and stop some addictions like opioids from ever happening,” Chief Perez said.

She noted that the collection site at TAMIU is open to all members of the surrounding community.

“The campus drop-off site is of course convenient to members of our campus community, students, faculty and staff...but the University’s Student Center (STC)  is easily accessed from Loop 20 and so can serve the Laredo community at large,” Perez explained.
