TAMIU GEAR UP IV 2015 Essay Contest

Even though my extra-curricular activities take up most of my time, I still manage to keep my grades up and attend every practice. Time management is also an important skill to learn in life because it is a skill that you will use to reach your goals. People who do not know how to manage their time can spend too much time on one thing and not get anything else done. Teamwork, determination, discipline, and time management are just some of the various skills I have learned from my many years of participating in extracurricular activities. These skills will help me succeed as I pursue my lifetime goal of having my own business. Gear up IV is of pivotal importance to the success in my future endeavors because it provides me with a surplus of opportunities that had not been offered to me before. These opportunities will allow me to become more involved and I strongly believe that my strong academics and extracurricular involvement reflect my ambition to earn my leadership both inside and outside of the classroom. I believe Gear up can help me become more involved in my community, which will allow me to reach my goals more efficiently than I ever could have by myself. - Melissa Garcia
