Texas A&M International University will be the site of a three-day symposium attended by student affairs personnel from the 10 campuses of The Texas A&M University System May 27-29.

"Reunion on the Rio: A Texas A&M University System Symposium" is a student-focused event that will focus on student recruitment, retention and services. It will feature nationally recognized presentations from student affairs leaders.

Among those scheduled to be present are Dr. John Gardner- author, university professor and administrator and creator of The Freshman Year Experience Program at the University of South Carolina; Stanley Henderson, Associate Vice President for Enrollment Management, University of Cincinnati, and The Honorable Representative Henry Cuellar, District 42, State of Texas, member of Texas House Appropriations Committee, Chairman of the Subcommittees on Education, member of the Higher Education Committee and Chairman of the House Research Organization Steering Committee.

The majority of the event and its sessions have been designed by University students at A&M International, said event chair Dr. M. Stephen Brown, Dean of Student Affairs at A&M International.

"This is an impressive opportunity for our System student affairs officers from throughout the state to meet with some of the foremost leaders in our profession. Our students have worked diligently in preparing an engaging and entertaining program, which we feel will be much appreciated by our guests and participants," Dr. Brown said.

In addition to workshops on trends and problems in the three Symposium focus areas, recruitment, retention and services, Reunion participants will be feted at an outdoors reception at International Bank of Commerce's Lago Del Rio, shopping in Nuevo Laredo, and a traditional border carne asada.

Financial support for the Reunion on Rio has been provided by International Bank of Commerce, Laredo National Bank, the ACT Corporation, Follett's Bookstores Incorporated, American Campus Communities and the Texas A&M International University Student Government Association.
