A&M International Holds "Literature on Border" Conference May 4-6

Texas A&M International University will hold its fourth annual "Literature on the Border" Conference Friday, May 4 - Sunday, May 6 at both the University campus and in Nuevo Laredo's Casa de la Cultura.

The theme of this year's gathering is "Deglobalizing Frontiers" or "Desglobalizando Fronteras" in Spanish. The event is free and open to the public.

The gathering will be held May 4 from 6 p.m. - 10 p.m. in the Casa de la Cultura in Nuevo Laredo, May 5 from 9 a.m. - 8:30 p.m. at A&M International's Pellegrino Hall 101, and May 6 from 10:30 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. in the Casa de la Cultura in Nuevo Laredo.

"This will be a unique conference that brings together critics, thinkers and writers from both the United States and Mexico to discuss literature, music and art that emerge from border cultures," said event co-organizer Dr. William Nichols, assistant professor of Spanish, "The discussions will not be limited to the U.S.-Mexico border and will include borders from all over the world."

Dr. Luis Arturo Ramos, professor of Spanish at the University of Texas at El Paso, will be the keynote speaker, Nichols said.

"We invite all those who would like to learn more about world borders and how they have affected our culture to attend this Conference," Nichols said, "The Conference will also feature poetry, story and essay readings by talented writers from both sides of the U.S.-Mexico border."
