This past week, Dr. Ray M. Keck III, president of Texas A&M International University (TAMIU) and Dr. Rumaldo Z. Juárez, president of Texas A&M University-Kingsville (TAMUK), signed an intrasystem cooperative agreement regarding communication sciences and disorders programs. (photo)

The two universities will work together to strengthen their programs to enhance the inclusion of both faculty and students in education and research.

Among shared strategies are the use of Trans-Texas Videoconference Network (TTVN)/Internet master’s level courses taught by faculty from both campuses, pursuing collaborative research opportunities and cooperation in placing students into summer externships.

“Sometimes, regional universities don’t have all the resources they need,” said Juarez,  “What we do have are strong relationships with fellow universities like Texas A&M International University and Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi (TAMUCC).  From those relationships come good things, like today’s agreement.”

Keck echoed that sentiment, welcoming the chance to work with TAMUK and furthering the mission of intrasystem cooperation valued so highly by The Texas A&M University System, state officials, the public and the universities themselves.

“Collaboration is what our universities do best, and this provides us with a valuable opportunity to do so while providing real benefit to our students and faculty,” Keck said.
