TAMIU Career Services Make-Over is March 2

Improve your image and give your career a boost! Learn how at the upcoming Texas A&M International University Office of Career Services 2010 Career Expo Image Consultant/Fashion Show, Tuesday, March 2 from 1 – 4 p.m. in the TAMIU Student Center (SC).

This event is free and open to the public.

“The theme for this year’s Career Expo is ‘Embracing Change for Success’ which stresses the importance of enhancing the marketability and career success of those searching for employment and or internship opportunities in the midst of a challenging economy,” explained Laura Martinez, director, employer relations, Office of Career Services.

The event is part of the 2010 Career Expo scheduled for Monday, March 1 – Thursday, March 4.

The Career Expo is held in an effort to offer students, and job seekers in general, a variety of learning experiences to complement their job search efforts.

The Image Consultant/Fashion Show kicks off with a presentation by nationally acclaimed image consultant, Sara Canaday, who will give participants tips and strategies designed to brand a successful self-image.

The presentation is scheduled from 1 – 2:30 p.m.

The fashion show will highlight up-to-date business attire from “Dress for Success” partners, JCPenney and Dillard’s, and will start at 3 p.m.

“Audience members can expect to learn to recognize the importance of developing a professional image by selecting appropriate workplace attire, thus leading to greater career success potential,” said Martinez.

She added that this is the first time an event such as this one is held during the Career Expo and that they are looking at other creative ways to enhance TAMIU students’ marketability.

For those who need a more hands-on approach, free individualized makeovers, hosted by Dillard’s, will be offered on a first-come, first-served basis Wednesday, March 3 from 1 – 4 p.m. in SC 114.

The “Image Makeover Session” is also open to the public.

The Office of Career Services assists potential, current and former students identify, explore, select and enter career programs and employment opportunities.
