TAMIU Establishes New CJ Honor Society

Texas A&M International University (TAMIU) has established a new Chapter of The National Criminal Justice Honor Society, Alpha Phi Sigma.

TAMIU commissioned the Nu Psi Chapter in a recent ceremony held at TAMIU’s Residential Learning Community.

The mission of Alpha Phi Sigma, Nu Psi Chapter is to promote analytical thinking through scholarship and ethical standards in the criminal justice field.

“One of the most exciting things about our Chapter is the opportunity to involve our outstanding criminal justice students in new community service opportunities that will benefit all involved,” said Dr. Kelly Frailing, TAMIU assistant professor of criminal justice and Chapter faculty advisor.

Officers installed were: President Omar Ramírez, Vice President and Risk Manager Carlos Alvarez, Secretary Stephanie Díaz and Treasurer Francisco González.  Dr. Fran Bernat, TAMIU chair of the department of public affairs and social research and professor of criminal justice, and Dr. Frailing serve as Chapter faculty advisors.

Along with the four officers initiated, students Rolando Salinas, Violeta Cavazos, Mario Sánchez and Miguel Silva were also inducted.  

Founded in 1942, Alpha Phi Sigma has sought to promote academic excellence, community service, leadership and unity for over 70 years. 

The requirements to become a Alpha Phi Sigma, Nu Psi, member include a minimum 3.2 GPA for undergrads and a ranking in the top 35% of their class; graduate students must meet a minimum 3.4 GPA.
