Students enrolled for Summer 2021 classes at Texas A&M International University (TAMIU) who meet the necessary selection criteria can benefit from the federal Coronavirus Relief Response Supplemental Appropriations (CRRSAA) funding, formerly known as the CARES grant.

Applications for students enrolled in Maymester, Sub-Term I, and Summer Session I have closed.

Applications for students enrolled during Sub-Term II, Summer Session II, and Summer Session III will open the week of July 12.

The CRRSAA funds are used to address financial hardships that include food and housing insecurity, as well as medical and school expenses.

Eligible undergraduate and graduate students will receive a notification including a link to the application via their Dusty student email. Applications will be open for a week after the link is originally sent. Late submissions or re-submissions are not permitted.

Eligible students may apply once during each application period if they are enrolled for terms in the respective application period as noted above. These students will receive a separate notification and application link via their Dusty email.

When applying, no additional supporting documentation is required, but students will be required to attest to their eligible, pandemic-related need.

Funding can be used to pay off any outstanding balances owed to the University. The remaining grant monies will be sent to the student’s BankMobile account. Students should visit the Card Services webpage at www.tamiu.edu/onecard for information on how to confirm that their disbursement preferences are current.

Students submitting their application are advised to retain the confirmation number available after submitting the application. To check the status of their application, students can email cares@tamiu.edu.

Individuals are advised that the CRRSAA application process can take up to 4 to 5 weeks for review.

Additional funding for the 2021 – 2022 Academic Year will be available. Students are advised to monitor the TAMIU CARES website for additional information.

CRRSAA funding comes from the Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund II authorized by the Coronavirus Response and Relief Supplemental Appropriations Act, 2021 Public Law 116-260, signed into law by former president Trump on Dec. 27, 2020. In total, it authorizes $81.88 billion in support of education, in addition to the $30.75 billion former Education Secretary DeVos provided last spring through the CARES Act, Public Law 116-13.

Questions can be directed to cares@tamiu.edu. Due to the significant volume of emails, students may experience a delay in response.
