While the Fall semester won’t begin until August, Texas A&M International University (TAMIU)  Graduate School has readied new programs that will offer graduate students career-enhancing opportunities.

TAMIU dean of the Graduate School, Dr. Jennifer Coronado, said that these new and enhanced programs respond to market needs and preferences from graduate students.

“We always strive to provide a graduate experience that can not only deliver enhanced career or professional growth, but  can do so by being accessible, affordable and convenient.  To that end, we’ve moved our Master of Science in School Counseling to an online platform to help graduate students accommodate often busy personal and family schedules,” Dr. Coronado said.

“The M.S. in School Counseling targets educators and helps them pivot their career from teaching students to helping them navigate educational, behavioral, social and home life challenges. As counselors, they can  support students and their families as their academic journey progresses,” she continued.

The program can be completed in as few as 16-18 months and includes 48 credit hours of study.

Also relaunching for this Fall is an online Alternative Certification Program. It can be completed in as few as 12 months and involves 18 credit hours of study, Coronado said.

“As we move to recovery from the Pandemic, we have once again been reminded about how crucial teachers are to the success of our society as a whole.  This 100% online program helps students to become the teacher, mentor and role model students look up to— and does not require a Bachelor’s degree in education. This online Alternative Teacher Certification Program (ACP) leverages the student’s content-area expertise to set them firmly on a path to becoming a classroom teacher,” she explained.

Coronado said other  online programs to be offered this Fall bring additional depth to the A. R. Sanchez, Jr. School of Business’ acclaimed Master of Business Administration (MBA) by incorporating special concentrations with measurable relevance for the MBA-hungry  job market.

“The MBA is the gold standard in Business, but also continues to have real-world application outside of conventional business settings.  A graduate specialization can truly expand its value substantially.  Again, as we look to respond to the needs of our market and students, they’ve indicated they want to target specific fields or organizations as they apply their MBA skills. To that end, we are adding two Concentrations, one  in Criminal Justice and the other in Healthcare Administration.  Both are popular employment drivers here in Laredo and beyond. Each sees distinct applications of the MBA and we believe that graduates who bring these additional Concentrations to their employment will gain distinct  and measurable career advantages,” Coronado noted.
