TAMIU College of Ed Earns TEA Commendations

For the third year in a row, Texas A&M International University’s (TAMIU) College of Education has earned multiple commendations from the Texas Education Agency (TEA), recognizing TAMIU as a high-performing Educator Preparation Program (EPP) for 2020-21.

The commendations are approved by the State Board for Educator Certification (SBEC).

The TAMIU EPP program was recognized in the “Rigorous and Robust Preparation” category, performing above and beyond annual performance standards for the First Test Pass Rate in Bilingual/ESL.

Two additional recognitions came in the “Preparing the Educators Texas Needs” category for preparing ,and supporting teachers who identify as teachers of color (Hispanic) or are employed in rural schools, and for recruiting, preparing and supporting the certification of teachers in content shortage areas, primarily Mathematics.

TAMIU dean of the College of Education, Dr. James O’Meara, noted that TAMIU led The Texas A&M University System in TEA commendations.

 “The TAMIU College of Education prepares the majority of educators within a 150-mile radius of Laredo.  We’re enormously proud of our graduates and our programs and our commendation success among our A&M System campuses. This is our mission and our passion, and we are happy to share our expertise and resources with our students and our region’s future teachers,” said Dr. O’Meara.  

He shared that the College of Education offers undergraduate degrees and initial certification opportunities through its EPP.  With five Bachelor’s of Science programs, advanced certificates, and graduate programs, the College leads educator preparation.
