Texas A&M International University (TAMIU) has repeated its high ranking for Social Mobility in the 2022-23 U.S. News & World Report's Best College Rankings Regional Universities West category -- TAMIU ranked No. 15.

Other rankings included TAMIU’s move up to No. 26 in Top Public Schools from last year’s 30; to 39 among Best Value Schools, and climbing to No. 57 from last year’s 67 ranking among the 120 national universities ranked in the Regional Universities West category.

TAMIU tied with sister campus West Texas A&M University as the highest ranked System regional campuses in The Texas A&M University System.

TAMIU President Dr. Pablo Arenaz said that the rankings are a testament to the University's commitment to providing students with top-quality education.

"As Fall classes continue and students and potential students consider the coming Spring semester, these latest rankings help to once again affirm TAMIU's role as a transformative agent in students' lives," Dr. Arenaz said, “We remain affordable, accessible, and exceptional. As rankings like these indicated, generations of graduates have seen their incomes and earning potential increase dramatically and measurably. Our graduates are catalysts to lasting impacts all over the world.”

Arenaz noted that such rankings are earned by all members of the University community.

"As always, we are honored to figure prominently in such rankings and commend both our gifted faculty, staff and our dedicated students for their commitment.  Faculty daily impart valuable knowledge to our students who meet every challenge and truly Go Beyond,” Arenaz concluded.

US News & World Report defines Regional Universities like TAMIU as those offering a full range of undergraduate programs and some master's programs and a few doctoral programs

According to the Report authors, campuses Identified as Best Value Universities “take into account a school's academic quality, as indicated by its 2022-2023 U.S. News Best Colleges ranking, and the 2021-2022 net cost of attendance for an out-of-state student who received the average level of need-based financial aid.”

On the importance of social mobility, the publication's editors noted "Economically disadvantaged students are less likely than others to finish college, even when controlling for other characteristics. But some colleges are more successful than others at advancing social mobility by enrolling and graduating large proportions of disadvantaged students awarded Pell Grants.”

The authors observe that public universities like TAMIU ranked in its Top Public Universities category are “public colleges and universities typically operate under the supervision of state governments and are funded, in part, by tax dollars and subsidies from the state. As a result, these universities often offer discounted tuition to residents of their states.”

Earlier this month, TAMIU was recognized as one of the nation's Top Ten-ranked Southern Colleges in Washington Monthly Magazine's 2022 College Guide  "Best Bang for the Buck" ranking. TAMIU was ranked #4.  The University was also ranked #4 for the 2021 edition.

Other institutions in the Top 10 ranking included the University of Texas-Rio Grande Valley (5), Vanderbilt University (6), and Texas A&M University (7). Of 227 institutions reviewed, TAMIU was the highest-ranked Texas university, and also the highest-ranked among A&M System campuses.

TAMIU also expanded its graduate school ranking by soaring to rank 32nd among 603 Master’s granting graduate schools surveyed.  For the 2021 Master’s University Rankings, TAMIU ranked 73rd.

TAMIU was also named to the Best Colleges for Student Voting Honor Roll. The authors note this “is especially relevant because young voters could be a deciding factor in the upcoming midterm elections.”
