Texas A&M International University (TAMIU) is encouraging the community to help it ring in the holiday season with its annual Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony Tuesday, November 29 from 6 – 8 p.m. on the Sue and Radcliffe Killam Library front lawn.

The annual multiple-tree lighting ceremony commemorates the start of the holiday season at TAMIU and includes a special visit by jolly old Santa Claus. Children and their families are encouraged to visit and take photos with Santa.

Admission is free and open to the community.

Additional activity stations will provide children with an opportunity to write their “Letters to Santa,” and games including a Candy Cane Toss, Pin the Nose on the Snowman, and much more.

Proving entertainment will be special guest artists including choirs from Clark Elementary School, Alexander High School and United High School, providing sing-along renditions of the season’s classics.

Limited light refreshments will include hot chocolate and holiday cookies.

Guests are also invited to extend their TAMIU holiday experience by attending the 21st Annual Guitarras de Navidad Concert, a cherished University holiday tradition presented by the Guitar Ensemble under the director of Dr. Gilberto Soto.

The free concert will be presented at 7 p.m. in the Recital Hall of the University’s Center for the Fine and Performing Arts.  Traditional seasonal song standards are shared on acoustic guitars.
