Texas A&M International University’s (TAMIU) College of Education and key scholarship donors are providing $21,000 in scholarship support for future teachers in observance of Teacher Appreciation Week, May 8 -12.

College of Education Dean Dr. James O’Meara explained the initiative.

“ In response to the Proclamation on National Teacher Appreciation Day and National Teacher Appreciation Week 2023, TAMIU and its key donors have joined forces to support aspiring educators in realizing their dreams of joining the teaching profession.TAMIU and the generous scholarship donors will provide the scholarship funds, especially significant during this, Teacher Appreciation Week,” Dr. O’Meara said.

“The National Teacher Appreciation Day and National Teacher Appreciation Week 2023  Proclamation, issued by the White House, recognizes the invaluable contributions that teachers make to society and highlights the importance of supporting those who have dedicated themselves to shaping the minds of future generations. TAMIU and its scholarship donors have embraced this call to action by providing financial assistance to deserving students who are passionate about pursuing careers in education,” O’Meara explained.

The scholarship funds will be awarded to selected students who have demonstrated academic excellence, a strong commitment to teaching, and a genuine desire to make a positive impact on the lives of students. The scholarships can help alleviate the financial burden often associated with pursuing higher education and empower future teachers to focus on their studies and professional growth.

O’Meara expressed his gratitude to the scholarship donors for their generous contributions and highlighted the opportunity to help grow that support.

“Persons and organizations interested in sharing the vision and supporting aspiring teachers can also contribute to the TAMIU College of Education Scholarship Fund, and help sustain the necessary and continued growth and development of the teaching profession.  A donation link is at: https://alumni.tamiu.edu/teacherappreciation23.
