TAMIU Hosts CiLOG 2024 Conference,  Explored Future of Cross-Border Logistics, Supply Chain Management

Texas A&M International University (TAMIU) hosted the International Congress on Logistics and Supply Chain (CiLOG) 2024 from Tuesday-Thursday, September 10 - 12, 2024, at the Student Center Ballroom.

This year's Conference theme was titled, "Harnessing the Future of Logistics: Exploring the Role of Logistics." The Conference focused on the intersection of logistics and emerging technologies.

Dr. Daniel Covarrubias, Director of TAMIU's Texas Center for Border Economic and Enterprise Development (TCBEED) and President of the CiLOG 2024 Organizing Committee, emphasized the event's significance.

 "CiLOG 2024 comes at a crucial time when nearshoring, technological advancements and evolving trade relationships are reshaping the logistics landscape," he said, "This Conference will provide invaluable insights into the future of cross-border trade and supply chain management."

The Conference featured a lineup of distinguished speakers and panelists, each bringing unique perspectives to the forefront of logistics and supply chain discussions.

Andrew I. Rudman, Senior Associate, Americas Program at the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS), delivered a keynote address on "Nearshoring: Challenges and Opportunities," addressing one of the most pressing topics in current trade dynamics.

Dr. Gastón Cedillo, Technical Director of the National Laboratory for Transportation Systems and Logistics at the Mexican Institute of Transportation (IMT), presented on "Rethinking USMCA Logistics: How Will the Physical Internet Change the Cross-Border Logistics Game?" offering insights into innovative concepts shaping the future of logistics.

Dr. Covarrubias discussed "Logistechs: The Future of Logistics," exploring the transformative potential of technology in the industry.

The event also featured panel discussions on cross-border development, bringing experts together from various U.S.-México border research centers to share their insights.

Another key panel focused on cross-border transportation infrastructure, featuring representatives from the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) and the Texas A&M Transportation Institute, addressing crucial aspects of logistics and trade facilitation.

"CiLOG 2024 offered a unique platform for academia, industry leaders, and policymakers to converge and shape the future of logistics in the USMCA region," said Gerardo (Gerry) Schwebel, President of CiLOG 2024 and Executive Vice President of IBC Bank's Corporate International Division. 

 "The insights shared here will be crucial for navigating the complexities of modern supply chains and cross-border trade," he said.

The Conference featured technical sessions, providing in-depth explorations of specific topics in logistics and supply chain management. Networking opportunities throughout the event allowed attendees to connect with peers and industry leaders, fostering collaboration and knowledge exchange. A highlight of the conference was a visit to the World Trade Bridge, offering attendees a firsthand look at one of the busiest land ports of entry between the United States and México.

CiLOG 2024 was hosted by TAMIU's A.R. Sánchez, Jr. School of Business TCBEED, in collaboration with the Asociación Mexicana de Logística & Cadena de Suministro. The event was simultaneously held at multiple international sites, including Universidad de Santander and UNITECNAR in Colombia, as well as Universidad Tecnológica de Querétaro, Universidad Michoacana de San Nicolás de Hidalgo, Universidad de Guadalajara, and Universidad Politecnica de Puebla in México. This multi-site approach further underscored the event's international nature and focus on cross-border logistics, fostering collaboration across different countries and institutions.
