Educational Aide Exemption Program Offered at TAMIU

Texas school district employees interested in completing their full teacher certification may be eligible to receive financial assistance through the Educational Aide Exemption Program available at Texas A&M International University (TAMIU).

To access the Educational Aide Exemption Program application, visit https://go.tamiu.edu/ed-aide.

School district employees interested in pursuing this need-based exemption from tuition and certain fees will need to meet certain criteria to meet eligibility, including:  

  • Be a Texas Resident
  • Be registered for the Selective Service or be exempt from this requirement
  • Be employed in some capacity by a public school district during the full term for which the student receives the award
  • Submit FAFSA/TASFA and demonstrate financial need
  • Have been employed by a public school district in Texas working full-time in a classroom directly with students in a teaching capacity as an educational aide for at least one school year, or a substitute teacher for 180 days of the past five school years preceding the term/semester for which the student is awarded their initial exemption
  • Meet financial aid satisfactory academic progress policy.

Individuals must be enrolled in courses required for teacher certification in one or more areas that the Texas Education Agency has determined to be experiencing a critical shortage of teachers at public schools in Texas.

Registration for TAMIU’s Wintermester and Spring 2025 courses is underway online via Uconnect.

TAMIU Spring 2025 classes begin Jan. 21, 2025. Late registration begins Jan. 21 at 8 a.m. and continues through Monday, Jan. 27 at 11:59 p.m.
