The Texas A&M International University Next Level Engineering (TAMIU NLE) project is a 5-year, $4.03 million grant funded by the U.S. Department of Education under Title V. The grant aims to expand and enhance academic offerings, program quality, and institutional stability. TAMIU NLE was created with the vision of establishing graduate-level opportunities for Hispanic engineering students by developing a Master of Science (MS) in Systems Engineering and offering graduate certificates in relevant engineering fields. The project also seeks to expand institutional resources for graduate students and faculty members by providing workshops, scholarships, and graduate assistantships, thereby bolstering student engagement in research and fostering a sense of community within the engineering programs.

NLE project will provide funding for the development and establishment of a Master of Science in Systems Engineering degree program.

Provide an infrastructure for engineering students to receive effective academic advising within the curriculum of the School of Engineering.

Provide active mentoring to help students bridge the gap between their education and the knowledge needed to be successful in their careers.

Proposes an MS in Systems Engineering that will additionally provide students with flexible 9 SCH certificates in the form of modular, credit-bearing credentials that can be obtained without completing the entire degree.

Once the MS of Systems Engineering is established, both thesis and non-thesis tracks will provide graduate students with hands-on work-based education opportunities to prepare them to transition into their industry jobs seamlessly.

Provide funding for the strategic investment in books, software, and hardware to improve student learning outcomes for the MS in Systems Engineering program.

Offer professional development workshops focusing on engineering targeting undergraduate and graduate students, staff, and faculty in TAMIU's School of Engineering. Workshops will include training on new equipment, academic success, and STEM community engagement at TAMIU.

Provide financial support for local and international students by offering graduate assistantships and scholarships that cover tuition for the MS in Systems Engineering.

Collaborate with existing grants, such as LSAMP, to support graduate student and faculty visits to LSAMP partner institutions to increase research collaborations and PhD student recruitment. Therefore, increasing the number of students enrolling in PhD programs.

Set up an endowment and work with other TAMIU offices to secure an endowment match to support Hispanic students at TAMIU.

Areas of Focus

MS SENG Program

NLE provides funding for establishing a Master of Science in Systems Engineering (MS SENG) with a concentration on Data Analytics or Automation. Students graduating with an MS in SENG will meet the ever-growing demand by industry for highly qualified engineers in the field.

Workshops

NLE seeks to implement workshops that bolster community engagement and discussions on relevant topics to enhance the skills and knowledge of students, faculty, and staff of TAMIU's School of Engineering.

Graduate Assistantships

NLE seeks to support students enrolling in the MS SENG program by establishing graduate assistantships to relieve financial expenses. Graduate assistants will work closely with the faculty and develop skills that they can apply in the workplace.

Advising/Mentoring

NLE seeks to establish a dedicated academic advising destination for engineering students. To compliment this, the NLE grant will focus on helping our students build mentor-mentee relationships with the faculty.
