Help currently enrolled students focus on their studies without having to face the burden of food insecurity. Dusty’s Food Pantry is willing to provide a temporary supplemental supply of non-perishable goods to students who submit the required online form.
No student should go hungry. There is a perception that if a student can afford to go to college, they can also afford food. Unfortunately, this is not always the case. Dusty’s Food Pantry was created on October 2017 with the help of the Division of Student Success to tackle the problem of food insecurity that is happening around the nation and in our campus.
Hunger-free students achieving success.
It's important to understand the difference between hunger and food insecurity, both terms are closely related but distinctive. Hunger is when one is having personal, physical sensation or discomfort, and food insecurity means the lack of available financial resources for food at the level of the household. Food insecurity involves the lack of having a nutritious meal to keep an energized day. The issue does not have a face, but it can impact anyone at any given moment.
In the Dusty's Food Pantry you will find breakfast items, pasta, noodles, beans, rice, canned vegetables, canned proteins, bottled water, among other food items. However, we not only have food! We also carry with personal care products including feminine, dental, and other hygiene items.
We always welcome donations to the pantry. You can call us at 956.326.2265 or send us an email at scce@tamiu.edu for more information on the needed items for the month.
Yes! Every month we upload the needed items to our Trailblazers event, you can find it here. We give a maximum of 5 community service hours per donation per month.
