The Consulate General of México and Texas A&M International University (TAMIU) have reaffirmed their continued support of the Institute of Mexicans in the Exterior (IME) BECAS Program at TAMIU.

On Tuesday, Consul General of México in Laredo Juan Carlos Mendoza Sánchez and TAMIU president Dr. Pablo Arenaz signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) affirming their commitment to the IME-BECAS Program.

This year, the IME-BECAS Program received a total of $7,500 in scholarship grant funds from the Consulado General De México en Laredo, with matching funds from TAMIU and $5,000 in a donation from Ermilo Richer – Richer Agencia Aduanal.

Since 2013, the IME-BECAS Program has awarded a total of $205,200 in scholarship funds between the Consulate, community partners, and TAMIU’s matching funds. The IME-BECAS Program supports Mexican students residing abroad in the United States by providing them with additional educational resources, noted Consul General Mendoza Sánchez.

Through the Program, the Government of México prioritizes the Mexican population living abroad in the United States by providing it educational resources. IME BECAS recognizes the importance of Mexicans working or studying in the United States to participate in educational programs that facilitate their development and ensure the continuity of their education.

Each year, the scholarship is made available to both undergraduate and graduate students currently enrolled at TAMIU. They are required to submit proof of Mexican citizenship, enrolled full-time, maintain an overall GPA of 2.75 or greater or submit a high school GPA of 3.0 or greater for any incoming freshman students.
