Texas A&M International University (TAMIU) celebrated October Energy Awareness Month with a unique event – solar smoothies for students. On Thursday, October 12, 2023, TAMIU shared smoothies made with blenders powered by the sun in the Breezeway between Dr. F. M. Canseco Hall and Anthony J. and Georgia A. Pellegrino Hall.

This exciting event was part of the Conserve My Planet IGNITE program which aims to educate students about the importance of solar power, energy efficiency, and resource stewardship. Students gained knowledge and skills to minimize energy use and make a positive impact on campus. They also got to enjoy a delicious solar-powered smoothie.

"We were thrilled to offer this fun and educational event to our students," said Trevor Liddle, TAMIU’s Senior Director of Campus Safety and Planning, "It's a great opportunity to engage students in energy awareness and empower them to create change."

TAMIU has partnered with Schneider Electric to help student residents live energy-smart by implementing cutting-edge upgrades and improvements in its residence halls. This long-term partnership is transforming student living, in addition to facilities across campus. At TAMIU, the Dustdevil community is proud to embrace #MaroonIsTheNewGreen.
