This Tuesday, Nov. 14 and Wednesday, Nov. 15, in the span of 1,970 minutes or 33 hours, we’re giving Texas A&M International University (TAMIU) students a reason to celebrate.

This time frame marks TAMIU's Giving Day, an annual campaign that’s been part of TAMIU’s fundraising efforts on behalf of its students, faculty, and programs since 2015. The fundraiser will last for a span of 1,970 minutes or 33 hours, which is a nod to the University’s founding year, 1970.

Donors from all over the world can participate in Giving Day by visiting www.tamiu.edu/givingday/. The online giving form is quick, safe, and easy to use. Giving Day is Tuesday, Nov. 14 from 8 a.m. to Wednesday, Nov. 15 at 5 p.m.

A flurry of projects seek support this Giving Day, including the University’s Athletics Department, Ballet Folkórico, Dusty’s Food Pantry, International Engagement, Leadership Programs, Reading the Globe, the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers, the Student Emergency Fund, the Student Nurses’ Association, TAMIU Alumni Association, TAMIU DustyMotors and TAMIU DustyTRON Robotics.

Nicolas Herrera, Annual Giving program coordinator, said that donations made during Giving Day help students develop their skills and add more resources such as scholarships for new students and students who are unable to afford tuition.

"Raised funds help students economically so that they can continue their higher education path," Herrera said.

Last year, a total of 558 donors participated in Giving Day, raising $23,000, Herrera said.

"Every dollar that is donated goes directly to student scholarships, programs and resources, in order to help TAMIU students succeed," Herrera said.

Several online challenges offer opportunities for Giving Day participants to further amplify their support. To participate and learn more about ways to maximize Giving Day impact, visit www.alumni.tamiu.edu/givingday-challenges.

Donations for Giving Day can also be made in person at the TAMIU Office of Career Services, located in Student Center, room 114. Join students, alumni and friends who are supporting the efforts and enjoy a bite as we celebrate our success.
