Killam Development, TAMIU Partner to Combat Food Insecurity With Holiday Campaign Benefiting Dusty’s Food Pantry

Dusty's Food Pantry

A collaborative effort between Killam Development and Texas A&M International University (TAMIU) seeks to ensure no student goes hungry.

A donation drive is underway to support Dusty’s Food Pantry, a crucial resource for TAMIU students facing food emergencies and financial hardship. The on-campus food pantry is available to all currently enrolled TAMIU students and combats food insecurity by ensuring students can focus on their education without the burden of hunger.

Throughout November, Killam Development has contributed funds to Dusty’s Food Pantry while coordinating drop-off locations with their tenants.

Tenants participating in this year’s food donation drop-off campaign included support from various local businesses: The Shoppes at Winfield’s Caro Linda Boutique, Skintology Spa, Shop 195;  Paseo Casa Blanca’s Slimerella Slime Shop and Tranquility Dispensary, and The Shoppes at Shiloh’s Magnolia Café + Grill.

Locations accept donations of canned goods and non-perishable food items.

Donations will also be accepted during the University’s Annual Tree Lighting Ceremony on Thursday, Nov. 30, from 6 – 8 p.m., at the Sue and Radcliffe Killam Library front lawn. The celebration is free and open to the public.

Attendees are encouraged to bring canned goods and non-perishable items to contribute to the campaign while enjoying the festive atmosphere of the holiday season.

The University’s Annual Tree Lighting Ceremony is a multiple-tree lighting ceremony commemorating the start of the holiday season. The event’s festivities include elementary and middle school musical performances, games, photo locations, and a holiday market. The first 100 children in attendance will also receive a Santa hat.

The University and Killam Development will also offer delicious seasonal treats and hot beverages.

Established in 2017, Dusty’s Food Pantry plays a vital role in addressing food insecurity and wellness on campus. During the 2022-2023 academic year, Dusty’s Food Pantry supported 510 students, emphasizing the critical need for ongoing community support.
