TAMIU Ranked Tops Nationally Among 15 Least Expensive U.S. Colleges

As college students and their families prepare for the start of the 2024 Fall semester, concerns over financing that education are understandable.

A recent national ranking will help assure students and their parents that Texas A&M International University’s (TAMIU) commitment to affordability is among the best in the nation.

EDsmart, a website dedicated to helping students and their families identify quality degree options available at the least expensive U.S. colleges, has ranked TAMIU’s net price as among the lowest of 15 national colleges and universities. TAMIU was ranked No. 10 nationally, and one of only two Texas institutions ranked...both part of The Texas A&M University System.

TAMIU president Dr. Pablo Arenaz said the national ranking underscores TAMIU’s mission, and success-oriented engagement by faculty, administration, and staff.

“Our commitment to being accessible, affordable, and exceptional informs our mission and anchors the service provided by our gifted faculty, administration, and staff. We’re gratified by this national ranking as it affirms that commitment. For the fourth year, we’ve maintained no increase in our tuition so that students and their families can secure the brighter future they deserve,” Dr. Arenaz observed.

“We also believe that rankings like this help students realize the opportunities that higher education can make real for them, right here at home. Recent research shows that individuals with Bachelor’s degrees can expect to increase their lifetime earnings by $1.2 to $1.3 million, with even greater gains in fields like engineering, or with advanced degrees,” Arenaz noted.

EDsmart utilized data from the College Scorecard, an official website of the U.S. Department of Education, to reveal the least expensive colleges in the United States that at a minimum offer bachelor’s degrees. In addition to bachelor’s degrees, TAMIU offers graduate and doctoral degrees. EDsmart sorted results by net price, leading to a listing of both the 15 least and 15 most expensive U.S. colleges.

The authors note that net price is the average annual cost a student receiving federal financial aid pays to cover expenses, including tuition and living costs, after subtracting grants and scholarships. The authors believe that this metric better defines the actual financial burden on families compared to just looking at the tuition sticker price.

EDsmart maintains that by considering variables like affordability, accessibility, graduation rates, and post-graduation earnings, students and their families are better able to make the most informed decision about their investment in higher education.

TAMIU summer hours through Aug. 9 are Monday - Thursday from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and from 8 a.m. – 12 noon on Fridays. Regular office hours resume Monday, Aug. 12.
