About Special Collections & Archives

Welcome to the Special Collections & Archives at Texas A&M International University.  This department is located on the second floor of the Sue & Radcliffe Killam Library.  The Special Collections & Archives was established as an independent unit within Killam Library in July 1999.

Regional history is the primary focus of our repository.  We house archival materials which are very valuable or fragile as well as serve as a Regional Historical Resource Depository (RHRD) for Webb, Dimmit, LaSalle, Zapata, Zavala, and Maverick counties.  In addition, TAMIU Special Collections preserves and protects select materials of enduring value that fall outside our primary collecting focus.  Materials in the archive include maps, manuscripts, rare books, first and other noteworthy editions, highly illustrated works, works with special binding or fine printing, as well as dozens of research, institutional, and family collections.

If you require singular assistance in using the Special Collections, it is recommended you call ahead to make arrangements with the Special Collections Librarian.  If you are traveling from outside the Laredo area to visit our facility, it is recommended that you call the Special Collections Information Counter to confirm our operating hours for the date and time of your visit.

Thank you for visiting!

- Jeanette Hatcher, Special Collections Librarian
