Interlibrary Loan

What is Interlibrary Loan?

Interlibrary Loan (ILL) allows Killam Library to borrow materials from other libraries that are not available here at TAMIU. This service is available to current TAMIU faculty, staff, and students. Some things to keep in mind when requesting materials through ILL:
  • Some materials may be difficult to obtain, including special collections, rare books, expensive materials, or fragile items.
  • Loan periods for ILL materials vary widely and are determined by the lending institution. Check the due date printed on the label of the ILL item or check your account to view the due date or renew an item.
  • Students may NOT request textbooks or other required texts that are currently being sold in the TAMIU bookstore. These requests will be canceled by ILL staff.

Make a Request

Turnaround Time

The "average" request takes about 1 week, but your request may take more or less time depending on how long it takes to find a lender to send it to us.

Loan Period

Loan periods for interlibrary loan materials are determined by the lending library. The borrower may request a renewal before the due date. No request for renewal may be made after the original due date has passed. You will see the new date reflected next to the item title in your request list.

Pickup & Return

Pickup: All materials can be picked up at the Circulation Desk. Articles will be delivered electronically to your TAMIU email. Please do not remove any paperwork or cover sheets.

Returns: Please return materials to the Circulation Desk. Photocopies of articles do not need to be returned.

Renew

Please call the Interlibrary Loan Office to renew your materials.

Please note: renewals are at the discretion of the lending library. If no renewals are permitted, it will usually be noted on the bookstrap label. If the lending library accepts the renewal request, you will receive an email with the new due date. If the renewal is denied, you will receive an email reminding you to return the item by its original due date. You cannot renew items that are overdue, lost, or recalled.
